What are YOU really afraid of?

Yesterday, I was at the park with my son. We were playing when he asked me to “climb the fire-hose” (it’s actually a pole, but that’s what he calls it) to reach the top of the playground. I managed to climb up, and he met me there after taking the easier route—up the stairs.

As he got close, I could see the fear in his eyes as he glanced down at the rocks far below. His instincts kicked in; he quickly leaned back to safety, then immediately asked me to run across the bridge and go down the slide with him. Naturally, I couldn’t say no to a 2-year-old boy bursting with energy and emotion.

As we slid down together, a thought struck me: how many parents can’t do this because of pain or health issues?

This brought a rush of emotions and questions, and I found myself asking, “What am I really afraid of?”

We all have fears. Some of us are scared of spiders, snakes, or clowns. Others might fear heights or needles.

But for me, my biggest fear isn’t any of those things. It’s the fear of not being able to fully experience life with my loved ones—the fear of losing the ability to run, play, explore, and enjoy the world with my kids because of pain or injury.

Staying active is about more than just our personal well-being. It’s about being present for the people who rely on us, who share in the joy of our adventures and everyday moments.

Maybe you’ve found yourself saying things like:

  • “I can’t run right now because my hips bother me too much.”

  • “I take ibuprofen every morning just to get through the day with this back pain.”

  • “I’d love to go on a walk with you, but my foot’s been acting up.”

These statements are real, and they’re disheartening because they represent missed moments—missed connections with the people and experiences that bring us joy.

This is exactly why we do what we do: to help people reclaim those moments, free from pain and fear, so they can live life fully and on their own terms.

Remember, it’s never too late to take control of your health. Whether it’s addressing old injuries or taking steps to prevent new ones, you have the power to make choices today that will keep you moving, playing, and enjoying life with the ones you love. Don’t let fear or pain hold you back. If you need help—let’s work together to ensure you can always say ‘yes’ to life’s adventures.
