"When I hit my 40s, everything fell apart"
Does this sound like you?
“I felt like I hit 40 and just started falling apart.”
Maybe it isn’t 40, maybe it’s 30, maybe it's 50.
Regardless, patients tell me this sort of stuff ALL THE TIME.
To be transparent, I am almost 30 and have felt some pain I haven’t felt before, but it was during a period of my life where I wasn’t as active as I normally was.
So why does it happen?
My theory is that the better part of your 30’s is spent growing.
Growing relationships, growing families, growing careers. Giving to others rather than your self.
You blink, 10 years pass, and you fell off a consistent exercise routine years ago. To the point it’s hard to believe you use to play sports or 18 holes of golf without a second thought.
Now you hurt shoveling the driveway, mowing the lawn, or going for a run.
The tightness becomes a stiffness. The stiffness becomes a pain. You can’t use your body like you use to and you chalk it up as “getting older”.
If nothing changes, nothing changes
People often try to equate their current pains to their old high school or college sports’ injuries.
While I often listen without judgement, I can’t help but think they are more likely hurting because they haven’t done anything athletic since high school!
All of this is to say, if the best time to start was back then, then the next best time is today.
Start prioritizing your health by getting active. I can help with that.
If you are already active… keep showing up.
