Why Wait till January? - A story of action.

Why Wait?

It never fails that about this time of year, one of two things happen. 1 - We push forward and initiate change, or 2 - We wait 60 more days until the New Year for that short lived boost of motivation.

But here’s the thing - option 2 is nonsense.

I want to share a story about someone in our community. For the sake of the story, let’s call him Alex. He’s an active guy here in Des Moines—loves to run, and he’s big into CrossFit. About 6 months ago, nagging shoulder and knee pain started slowing him down. It was manageable, yet annoying. He kept putting off doing anything about it, telling himself he’d “deal with it later”. It would affect his training, but not to the point that he felt it was worth addressing. After a months of managing it on his own, he reached out, tired of feeling limited and not enjoying his training.

One of the easiest things for Alex to do during those prior few months, was to just mask the pain. And that’s the dangerous part, right? It’s easy to stop pain in the short term—modify workouts, take a break, pop an Advil, throw on some ice, heat, or just stop all together.

But masking pain only goes so far, and the real issue often sticks around, sometimes getting worse. When Alex made the decision to seek help and make a change, progress occurred. This change was lasting, and happened because the root cause was finally addressed.

Fast forward to today, and Alex is back to doing what he loves—pain-free and without hesitation.

So Why Take Action on Pain Now?

1. Small Steps, Big Impact:

Getting out of pain doesn’t mean an overhaul. Small, intentional actions—like simple movement snacks, changes in daily habits, simple form tweaks—can make a huge difference. By January, these small steps build momentum, putting you back in control of your workouts BEFORE the New Year.

2. Pain Won’t Just Disappear

It’s easy to mask pain or hope it will go away on its own, but pain that’s ignored or covered up tends to linger and can even worsen. By starting now, you’re addressing the root cause instead of just numbing the symptoms.

3. Confidence in Every Workout

Imagine going into 2025 already feeling strong, pain-free, and ready to push yourself. By starting now, you’re setting yourself up for success without the “new year” pressure.
